How To Keep Your Skin Moisturized In Winters?

Winters are known for itchy, dry and flaky skin. As the cold wind starts taking a toll over your skin, this cozy and beloved weather soon turns into a nightmare.

This is the reason why your skin needs extra hydration in winters. To cope up with the dry winter, here is how you can keep your skin moisturized in winters.

1.    A humidifier can be a savior

Want to get rid of dry winter skin instantly? Invest in a good humidifier this winter season. A humidifier helps in keeping the air around you moist and fresh which does not let your skin dry up. You could choose to run a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep to keep your skin moisturized.

2.    Lower your thermostat temperature

While winters only seem to be survivable when you crank up the heat in your home, excess heat impacts your skin adversely. To avoid super dry skin in winters, keep the temperature of your HVAC a degree or two lower. Thermostat sucks up all the moisture from the air and your skin, thus making it all drier. The ideal temperature should be set around 68 degrees to 78-degree F.

3.    Take a quick shower

To prevent your skin from getting dry, don’t take really long showers in winters. Also, don’t shower with too much hot water. Ideally, water should be lukewarm and make sure you don’t stay in the shower for more than 5 to 10 minutes. Longer you stay in, more it makes your skin dehydrated. Also, avoid drying your hands with a hand air dryer when in a restroom in winters.

4.    Choose your cleanser wisely

In winter, the choice of your soap matters. Always use a fragrance-free, moisturizing cleanser or gel. Also, limit the use of soap in winters and avoid forming a lather. Lather causes your skin to dry up and leaves a white flaky residue behind.

5.    Moisturize naturally

After preventing your skin from becoming dry due to external sources, it is time to hydrate your skin yourself. Moisturize your skin and keep it hydrated as much as you can by applying moisturizer 2 to 3 times a day, drinking lots and lots of water and moisturize again after washing your hands. Follow a proper skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and to prevent it from becoming chapped and dry. Use petroleum jelly to keep your skin moisturized for a long time.

6.    Apply sunscreen

Apply sunscreen even when on days when the sun is not in its best mood. Even when it is snowing or the sun is not shining brightly, when you are just out running for an errand, no matter what – always apply sunscreen on your skin in winters. Apply a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher for protecting your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

These were some of the ways to keep your skin moisturized in winters.

Stay hydrated.
